After the year that we've had, it's safe to say that more people are looking towards the online space to earn income. This article is going to cover exactly how to do that if you’re a busy mama and a complete online business newbie with a dream of working for yourself as you raise your kids.
I will share how selling your knowledge ( e-learning) is the simplest business model to dive into in 2021, the tech, and startup fees involved, and how to start attracting customers.
Here are a few interesting stats:
The worldwide e-learning market is projected to be worth $325 Billion in 2025.
2. The US e-learning market could grow by $12.81 billion between 2020 and 2024
Simple model :
E-learning ( selling your knowledge)
This business model is where you’re teaching a skill that you consider yourself an expert at. You are trading your knowledge in exchange for money.
Being a busy mama, I know how precious your time is so let me cut to the chase and break down what you’ll need to get started with this type of business.
1. Decide on your superpower
We all have a superpower… something that comes easy to us. Don’t downplay your magic mama! The possibilities of what you can offer are endless! Here are a few examples: baking, photography, stamp collecting, DIY projects, knitting, lesson planning, meal prepping, life coaching, business training, potty training... you get the picture….
I'm sure you do something so much better than people around you and you've probably been told that you should definitely think about doing “this” as a business.
Have you survived a difficult situation? Maybe lost a huge amount of weight? Maybe gotten through a terrible divorce feeling hopeful? Maybe you’ve suffered a loss and came out the other side and now you can help someone else do the same?
That is your superpower!
If you can’t pinpoint your superpower, here are a few prompts to help you get started.
What is the one thing you do better than anyone else? What comes easy to you? What do your friends consistently pick your brain about? What have you accomplished? What’s the biggest struggle you’ve overcome?
2. Decide how you’ll want to sell your superpower to others
How are you packaging your offer? Is it one on one coaching services or by selling digital products? ( ebooks, seminars, masterclasses, courses…)
The fees and equipment will vary depending on how you decide to deliver your knowledge.
3.Tech and Fees involved.
If tech freaks you out, please don’t let it! You don’t need to be an expert but you have to be willing to learn, at least the basics.
The fees and tech needed will vary depending on your offer.
The non-negotiables:
A website ($100 for the year) This can be a simple landing page or something a bit more developed. Your website is a place online where people can read a bit more about you.
Social media business accounts ( Free) Start a business account on the platforms your ideal customer engages the most on.
A way to get paid: usually PayPal or Stripe account
A way to collect emails: Mailchimp has a FREE plan that is great for new online business owners.
Other tech fees

Resource documents: depending on your content, you can create workbooks, templates, and other material to better support your students

Google Meet for virtual meetings or

Lighting
Microphone
Digital products
You’ll need a platform to host your digital products like Thinkific, Kajabi, Teachable ( platforms start at $39)
4. Attract your tribe
Your job is to attract your tribe. People only buy from people they know, like, and trust. Here are a few ways you can achieve that!
Creating content your tribe finds value in. This can be weekly blog posts, how-to videos, sharing ins and outs of your topic, and anything else your ideal customer would be interested in. offers quick wins
Start a FREE online community to get to know your audience a bit better.
Grow your following on social media by posting regularly
GROW YOUR EMAIL LIST by offering freebies ( checklist, free course, PDF downloadable…)
Grow your list by investing in FB ads
Grow your list by partnering with other online business owners.
5. Mindset for success
The most important thing you’ll need when venturing off into a startup is a mindset for success. Knowing that you’re committed 100%. I find this only happens when you are doing your life’s work, sharing with the world what you were brought here to share!
Do not start an online business purely to make fast cash because you will be disappointed. People can feel fake. You deserve better than that!
More business models
The exciting thing about the online space is that you can decide on a business model that aligns with who you are and what your lifestyle is.
A few other ways to earn income online: affiliate marketing, blogging, e-commerce…. If you want to learn a bit more about the other business models I’ve written an ebook that will help you demystify them. It also gives you access to a course I offer on how to validate your new online business in 3 simple steps.
I hope you have an awesome week ahead,
Be well, and keep dreaming!
