I want to start my own online business BUT raising kids takes up so much time, how could I ever have enough time to do it all? That’s the million-dollar question for every busy mama that desperately wants to work for herself online as she raises her fam.
Trying to create balance as a mompreneur can be tricky and overwhelming. Especially when you’re at the start-up phase.
Staying organized and managing your time as a mompreneur can help you feel so much more productive, intentional, and focused. Your time is precious and you want to make sure that you take control over it so that you can feel like you have enough time for your business and family. The good news is there are a lot of tools and resources that can help you navigate through this exciting part of your life. Whether you’re a digital enthusiast or an old-school pen n paper kind of gal I got you covered.
I’ll share some of my favorite ways I stay organized to operate my business and homeschooling mom life! Let’s dive in, shall we!
IF IT AIN’T SCHEDULED, IT AIN’T GETTING DONE
Being a scheduling ninja is kinda my superpower. I like to have a clear picture as to what and when things need to get done. I schedule everything! Showers, workouts, homeschooling, date nights, work time, downtime...If it doesn’t get scheduled, it will NOT get done. Becoming this intentional with your schedule is going to make sure that you’re working smarter not harder and that you’re investing your time towards things that help you reach your goals!
Having a weekly time when you sit and think about your schedule is helpful to intentionally set up your week. This way you’re not reacting to your days but getting after them with purpose.
Begin by thinking of your week in terms of the non-negotiable: what do you have planned this week that needs to get done? For example, doctor’s appointments, homeschooling schedule, phone calls, and anything else that needs to get done schedule that in first.
Next, think about your me-time. This is the time when you get to take care of yourself. Do you wake up early in the morning to work out? May you like going for walks before sitting at your desk or practicing yoga first thing in the morning. Add your me-time in your planner.
Time to schedule your work time. This will look different for you, depending on if this is a side hustle that your building or something full-time makes sure that you add in the time where you are going to be solely for focusing on working on your business.
Time to add all this to your planner!
Planners I love!
Having purchased many many planners throughout the years, these are my favorites:
Orange Circle Studio offers eco-friendly artistically designed desk calendars, monthly and weekly planners that are large spiraled and beautifully designed. Prices range from $7-$25
High-Performance Planner by Brendon Burchard is also one of my pics because not only will it keep you organized and focused BUT it also offers daily opportunities to check in on your morning mindset. There is a section daily that can be used as an evening journal and a weekly wrap-up that encourages you to look back at the week and score yourself.
The Full Focus Planner is also another great option. It’s not very visually appealing but it does offer tremendous value. What I like most is that I am focused on weekly and yearly goals in all areas of my life: health, spiritual, relationships, business… Just like with the high-performance planner you also get a weekly chance to reflect back on the week and set your goals in the week ahead you also have to set three goals that should be worked on and then have the opportunity to separate the schools throughout the week.
HELP PLEASE
As a busy mom and a brand-new mompreneur, there are things that you will not be able to do on your own. Totally normal, in fact, you shouldn’t be doing everything in your business unless you want a fast-track ticket to burnout!
I'm going to share some of my favorite websites that I use to hire virtual assistants to help me with tasks in my business so that I can focus on other things. This way I'm not spending hours trying to figure out how to design a logo or do something more technical and I can focus on what I do best.
At first, the thought of hiring someone seems unrealistic because let’s just face it you're just starting out and cash flow may be low but the websites that I’ll be sharing offer the possibility of hiring a virtual assistant that fits your budget.
As the business owner, you get to decide on the budget, the tasks as well as the deadline. The best part, you have the choice between hundreds of extremely skilled applicants that are waiting for contracts. A virtual assistant will help you get more work done as they handle tasks that you may not be skilled at so that you as the business owner can be free to create more products or sign up more customers and do what you do best.
Anytime you are spending your time on tasks that are not moving your business forward you are losing money.
Outsourcing websites
The following websites offer hundreds of virtual assistants. I’ve used all three but find Fiverr to be my favorite.
